The composition DVINA is Jacob Kirkegaard homage to Riga. It aims to portrait in sound, one of the most important landmarks of Riga, namely river Daugava. DVINA is not created from recordings of its water, but from the subtle resonating iron fences which stretch along the river. The movement of water, wind and passing ships make the iron fences slightly vibrate and thereby to emit a fragile singing. It is a singing only audible inside the fences.
Jacob Kirkegaard attached highly sensitive contact microphones (accelerometers) on the fences and captured their inner resonating body. DVINA is a composition of these recordings. It is created with the aim to unfold the soul of Daugava. And to bring its never ending immense force, acoustically to life.

DVINA is part of Kirkegaard's ongoing recording of fences along the rivers of the world.
